ANDREW STANSFIELD

Each autumn we hold a race exclusively for members of Penny Lane Striders, to celebrate Andrew's life and the amount that he contributed throughout his many years with the club.

Andrew held the role of Treasurer and also coached and led Group 2, which was where many of us got to know him. His trademark white running cap and good-natured banter made Andrew a well known and much respected figure, both within Penny Lane Striders and the local running community.​

His sudden loss in 2013 came as a shock to everyone at the club, and his absence is felt keenly to this day. Our annual autumn handicap race was an event that he would always forego the opportunity to run in favour of helping out with the organisation and time-keeping, so renaming it in his honour was a way to enable our members - whether they knew Andrew or not - to reflect upon the enormous contribution that he made to our club.

​After you have finished your run, and are back at the clubhouse enjoying a curry and a drink, make sure that you raise a glass to Andrew: a man who was and will remain a legend and a true Penny Lane Strider.
